At RCCC, we believe that play is the work of children. Research shows that children learn most effectively when they can explore their natural curiosities through play. We provide ample opportunities for children to engage in hands-on activities that build the foundation for learning. These activities include creative arts, music, movement, storytime, singing, building, and dramatic play. Educators enhance these experiences by narrating children’s actions, asking open-ended questions, and offering thoughtful responses, fostering deeper learning.
Our educators use the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS) to guide their teaching, ensuring that developmental milestones are integrated into the curriculum. VELS helps us provide developmentally appropriate practices, offering learning opportunities that match each child's current stage of growth while supporting their continued development.
At RCCC, we emphasize the importance of social and emotional development. We believe that when children learn to express and regulate their emotions in safe, appropriate ways, they are better equipped for success—both socially and academically.
We also recognize that every educator brings their unique teaching style, which fosters passion and excitement in their work. Passionate educators are less likely to experience burnout and are more likely to create high-quality, intentional learning experiences for children. The Director supports educators in their professional growth, offering guidance while respecting their autonomy. Curriculums and documentation of children’s progress will be shared directly with parents to maintain strong partnerships in each child's learning journey.
